As a community advocate, Ayana has consistently demonstrated her abilities to provide access to resources and give voice to our most vulnerable residents. As alderperson, she will build on her current work and create space for our neighbors to decide the fate of our ward.

She promises to build a ward we can all be proud to call home. Her plan leverages the community assets that currently exist and provides framework to create new opportunities for growth.

Lack of funding has been used as a talking point against change for far too long, that is why Ayana will donate 20% of her salary back to the community to fund projects across the ward. She firmly believes that by implementing the policies in her platform, the 21st Ward will thrive in the future.

Public Safety

Fully-funded communities rarely experience gun violence. Ayana is committed to reopening our mental health facilities, collaborating with City Council to create year-round youth employment, and targeting abandoned homes and lots that serve as conduits for crime.

Affordable Housing

Safe and affordable housing is a human right. Ayana supports strengthening the Affordable Requirements Ordinance, supporting the Just Cause Eviction Ordinance and creating programs to help homeowners repair and upkeep their primary residences.

In addition, Ayana has experienced firsthand the despair associated with houselessness, that is why she will fight to pass Bring Chicago Home and provide resources to our houseless neighbors.

Quality Education

As a mother and former educator, Ayana understands fully the role fully-funded schools have on our youth. Ayana will work to implement universal Pre-K and work to expand supportive programs for families that expand beyond the school bell.

Jobs & Workers

Economic Stability is the key to reducing gun violence in our city. Government has a responsibility to protect the rights of our workers and create policies that increases the quality of life for working class residents.

Ayana has experienced the hardships families face in the labor force firsthand.

She supports free mass transit, universal childcare, $25 minimum wage, and expanding access to employment for returning citizens to reduce recidivism and keep our residents in our community.

Environmental Justice

For far too long our communities have fallen victim to harmful policies that ignore the needs of our residents. Our ward suffers from extreme flooding and elevated heat levels in the summer from lack of green spaces.

Ayana will work to pass the green new deal and refuses to support any new developments that do not include clean energy. She will work to repair sidewalks and bike lanes to reduce the cars on the road and create a more walkable community.

Ward Services

As a former Congressional Caseworker, Ayana built a network of over 400 community organizations and government departments. She plans to use that network to improve access to resources for community members.

She also plans to house a community pantry in the ward office, where our neediest residents can pick up household essentials and host workshops to show neighbors how to navigate city services.
